Practical double because some people may pass it? I suppose that may be correct. Its an almost immediate rewhip to the experienced tournament player - and note I say "almost".

when leading 6-1 to 9 against someone thats strong enough to know its a take, then surely you dont want to be sending the cube to them, especially when they will send it right back at the first sign of trouble.

when leading 6-1 to 9 against someone thats weak enough to pass it, then you dont want to be shipping it because your gammons (and backgammons!) must be high enough for it to be worth your while to play on - also allowing your weaker opponent the chance to get back into the match seems silly.
