Powerball odds are 1 in 146,107,962 but people buy tickets everyday.

In California we have "Mega Millions" - a multi state lotto with odds of winning at 175,711,536 and "Super Lotto" with odds of winning is "only" 1 in 41,416,353. There are times when there is more money in the Super Lotto but people still buy tickets in the Mega Millions.

As the future great mathematician Han Solo said:
