This sort of drives home how ludicrous the media's reporting has been on this issue. It's sort of like the way they strive for "even-handedness" on the climate change issue, only taken to the nth power.
The lead story on CNN says "The Large Hadron Collider -- designed to simulate conditions of the Big Bang -- was switched on this morning. Skeptics claim the experiment could create a black hole capable of swallowing the Earth."
I understand that bringing up the notion of a black hole capable of swallowing the Earth gets viewers to tune in. But still, would they report "Skeptics claim the experiment could doom everyone involved to eternal damnation in the pits of Hell"? Would they report "Skeptics claim that the Earth might suddenly leap from its orbit and go careening through space"? Not every concern lodged by a skeptic is worthy of note!
