My play may disconnect, but it makes White's life difficult. This game is not about making the easiest play you can make for yourself, there are two sides. You build the most powerful position by making your board and putting checkers in position to build an even more powerful position quickly.

Meanwhile you force White to tiptoe carefully on the other side of the board lest he leave a blot that we can hit and send back. You also prevent him from making his 5 point which as soon as you vacate it will become his #1 goal.

Overpower White with your positional superiority and watch him cower. You can escape at your leisure later. Making the 16 point doesn't disengage anymore than my play, by the way... Because you will still need 55 or 66 or 65 to break contact completely. Owning the 16 point you give White 4 extra points of safety behind you and allow him to disengage and build himself... Why make your opponents desired game plans easier for him???
