The hit is a must. Anything else is giving up the game and just hoping to run forward off the gammon. With the close race, we could be forced off our anchor and get pounded. Almost certain death.

If we get hit back, then we have horrid timing for our holding game. But we already have barely enough checkers to close our board. So I go with 7/4 6/5. If we get missed, then 1,2,3,4 all make a fifth point. 5,6 both start a back checker. And we do have four miracle rolls that close the board. If we are hit, then we are trying to re-time. Hopefully we get a chance to make the deuce-point anchor quickly. Otherwise, we could be donating four points (or six).
