So...
3k+14k+2400+54k in the pot = 73.4k in the middle.
It's 40k for me to call, and my only possible raise here is an all-in raise.
A call is out of the playbook. There's too much in the middle to just call, as even though I'm on the button, in this case it's a disadvantage. Why? Because even on a board that may look good to 7s, the SB is going to shove his remaining 114k at the 113k pot. What other play does he have?
So the two options were shove or fold.
I saw good reasons for both.
I fold and I'm still well above the average chip count. There's still plenty of room to play, and I wouldn't be in bad shape at all.
Shoving... Theres some fold equity here. Opponent could be trying to stop me from blind stealing, so he could have a mediocre hand (KT, KQ, AT, etc). He could also be on a monster (AA, KK, QQ) wanting action. On the other hand, he could have a mid pair (66-TT) or a quality starting hand (AK, AQs) and not know what to do if put to the test for all his chips.
Payouts were top 3. 8 left. So 5 people walk with nothing. If I fold, I still have a good chance of cashing. If I shove and lose I'm done, If I shove and get a fold I'm a solid chip leader, and if I shove get called and win I'm basically a lock to make heads up with half the chips in play.
So, I chose to shove. Opponent tanked for awhile, what felt like 3-4 minutes to me, I wasn't watching the clock, and as house rules allow when heads up with someone he turned over pocket tens to try and get a read on me. I stayed as stoic as I always do, and he just left them there for another 30 seconds or so. He finally talked himself into a fold and I scoop the pot and go on to cash. (3 way even chop when all of us had ~260k)
