More on clocks

I'm all for inclusiveness and consideration; however, a weekend tournament cannot make every accommodation for every disability and/or disorder.

I'm sure many of us would like to play in Major League Baseball, the NFL, or the NBA but recognize, for any number of reasons, we're not going to be able to do so. Such is life. It doesn't mean we can't enjoy those sports at other levels, as participants, and by other means, as fans, fantasy participants, etc. Similarly, there are many avenues, venues, and manners to play/enjoy our great game. The Internet provides myriads of opportunities for all.

The problem with accommodation in clocked matches is subjectivity in the determination of accommodation. If the standard is 2/12, who gets 2/15? who gets 3/12? 3/15? who gets no limit? It becomes an unmanageable farce.

There is a superb player in Austin named Phil. I believe he has MS -- he has tremendous difficulty in movement, in speech communication, etc; it is difficult for him to roll the dice and move the checkers. However, I doubt Phil would have difficulty playing with a clock; he accommodates himself by playing without delay, he rolls the dice, makes his move, and picks his dice up. I think he could hit a clock faster than picking up the dice. I've played him a number of times and I don't think any of those tourneys have been delayed by him. Again, accommodation goes both ways.
