Using a bot is certainly the primary way, and manipulating the dice would be very hard - practically impossible. But I suppose you could have also said that about being able to see your opponent's hole cards in poker.
There are other ways, which I would loosely call cheating, to try to get your opponent to abandon a winning position. A good example of this happened to me in online chess. The server would not run either side's clock when it was detecting "lag". A very inventive opponent of mine had figured out how to make his system temporarily lose contact with the server, but then somehow reconnect just before he would have been logged off, which was 45 seconds on that server. The pace of play was normal, until I obtained an overwhelming position. Starting then, he would "lag" for 45 seconds every single move, attempting to frustrate me into aborting the game myself.
