Your play could not have gained for you. If your opponent had correctly played on, you have less match equity, by definition. You only got back to 50% equity because your opponent made a mistake: by doubling.

I like your thinking though; you now merely have to find a play which induces the opponent to incorrectly play on. Then your gain is real.
