Those are essentially roll vs. roll positions. They have some strange behavior. For example in a symmetric perfect n - roll vs n - roll position making the race longer for both sides is bad for the trailer. Which of the known models accounts for that?

There is similar behavior in symmetric 4 vs. 4 bearoffs. Of the symmetric 4 vs 4 bearoffs in the range of 10 - 15 pips the win % for the on turn player is getting larger as the EPC is increasing. Here is a hint about why: Consider the expression p(1-p) and look at data for the number of rolls to bearoff.
