And you shouldn't expect him to explain all things about it. You could setup a bunch of positions on gnu and take your guess for the wastage and then check. If your intuition is always good then no problem. If it is off in a consistent direction for a certain class of positions then adjust your intuition. If it is off randomly then probably need to look for important features that puts them into a class of positions. This is a much more valuable way of learning how EPC works then just reading about it.
