Ruth was actually a pretty damn good pitcher.
 18-8, 2.44 ERA
23–12, 1.75 ERA, 9 shutouts, pitched 13 scoreless innings in Game 2 of World Series
 24-13, 2.01 ERA, 6 shutouts
13-7, 2.22 ERA. In the playoffs: 3-0, 0.87 ERA, 1-0 shutout in Game 1 of the World Series, streak of 29 consecutive scoreless World Series innings was broken was broken in Game 4.And of course he put up some ridiculous offensive numbers for a pitcher (batted over .300 in those 4 seasons). That's just what I could find offhand. He only played a limited number of seasons so he obviously gets more consideration as a hitter than a pitcher.
