Pete also says in that interview that the only tough pitchers he felt like he faced was before he knew how to hit. When asked who was the toughest pitcher he faced he only had an answer from his first couple seasons because after that he was a hitter. I imagine most great offensive players feel this way, while I'm sure they'd rather face a no name than a Ryan or a Seaver, they'll still get more than their fair share. I also think the pressure on the pitcher, even the great pitchers, might crack having to face hall of famer after hall of famer after hall of famer, never having an inch to breathe. You're Cy Young and you make a mistake against a regular player you get away with it most of the time, make that mistake any time in the game versus anyone in my lineup you get punished.
