Ok, then he's out.

Betting on the sport as a player or manager threatens the integrity of the sport. The only case I'll buy that it doesn't is if he bet the exact same amount on his team to win on every single game. Even if he says that is what he did I don't buy that for a second.

And the reason I'd mention it on the plaque is because he has been kept out so long due to this ban, so future generations should know why he was kept out so long, were he to be inducted today, for instance. Had it not happened, would he have not been a first ballot Hall of Famer? I think so.

That is how this differs from racists, womanizers, drunks, steroid users (although we'll see how that plays out as players like Bonds, Clemens, Maguire, etc., become eligible), etc.
