Long Rollout

I didn't want to recount the entire story as told to me by Neil at one of the tourneys earlier this year, thanks for doing so. I, too, think that Kasparov didn't do anything wrong. It's too bad his staff did, as Neil obviously did nothing wrong either. He was upfront with his rating and didn't know he should have said "Hey, Gary, I play better than these schmucks, might want to think twice about what line you play."
Gary no doubt would have loved to play out the game if he had the necessary time to think about it, but he didn't, because it was a demonstration and he wasn't prep'ed to play someone of Neil's caliber along with 23 other games. It would have been embarrassing to lose (or even draw) for Kasparov in such a setting, maybe liken it to certain players not wanting their matches recorded when playing doubles in backgammon. You're not exactly there to play your absolute best in doubles, the game doesn't have your full undivided attention, it's a lot more fun than regular bg, and if you lose to Schmoe #1 & Schmoe #2 because you played sub par it can be attributed to doubles, but not your overall play, and some ppl don't like that to drift out into the real world, hurts their image and possibly their pocketbook.
