I believe he means he hit two checkers on his way to the ace point with the 52, Matt. Statistically it might mean that 75% of all players are better than David Rockwell, which I am sure is a pretty high figure, assuming the other players made a better play that is.

The high percentage of messed up checker plays and cube actions even on the first plays of the game are the precise reason that a player who WILL study can and will show consistently good results. David Rockwell has said that this has really been a character builder of a year for him, meaning that he has not had good results. For instance he made the finals of the Last Chance in Peoria and outplayed the winner Chris Knapp convincingly. I know because I watched it. His cold streak will not last long if he keeps playing like this, imho.

It was good for backgammon when Chris won the LC to add Open level ABT points to the 20+ ABT points he earned in intermediate events earlier this year. Chris is obviously hot and that is why I bought him in the Calcutta. Nice going Chris!

David is fighting to win his second Chicago area player of the year award despite his "character building" luck this year. For me it has always been comforting to be able to survive some adversity and still end up winning a match. Maybe David is just learning how to do that this year. I can tell you this much: You don't want to draw David in your next match!

Hang in there David, your ABT points will eventually come. You are just "paying your dues" this year. I think you will be winning silver dollars, (for top 25 in ABT), for the rest of this decade. Keep studying, it separates the men from the boys... eventually.
