Beginning in 2009, at least one local backgammon club- mine- will allow clocks at EITHER opponent's insistence.

I haven't even made a ripple in the ABT pond, but after Baltimore this weekend, the only ABT tournament I will attend other than Pittsburgh is one where either player can clock. I just gotta go to Pittsburgh no matter what. It's a chance to visit my daughter at Carnegie Mellon!!

When enough top players make it known that they are done unless things are clocked, there will be clocks.

Pittsburgh would be a great tournament to get it started. Everybody loves that tourney, so I doubt if clocks would scare too many people away.
