I think its just indicative that players will fear what they don't know. Tourneys are for money - why should someone completely unfamiliar with clocks be expected to accept the unfamilar consequences of agreeing? If you believe clocks belong in bg, you need a way to overcome this fear. I like the idea mentioned elsewhere of "using it for practice" (i.e., no consequence if your flag falls). Even there, you should expect some players to balk because... some won't want to be distracted by fumbling with unfamiliar mechanics during a tourney match.
