Progressive vs. traditional Last Chance

Adam, I would like to hereby award you with a United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland passport for services rendered to, what I at least perceive to be, sanity. Jolly good show, what!
If there are three flights (Champion, Intermediate and Beginner) we Brits have been known to also do the following in our combined Last Chance: Beginner v Beginner start at 0-0 to 7 Beginner v Intermediate start at 1-0 to 7 Beginner v Champion start at 2-0 to 7 Intermediate v Intermediate start at 0-0 to 7 Intermediate v Champion start at 1-0 to 7 Champion v Champion start at 0-0 to 7
This was used in the 64 player Last Chance Cotswolds Fireside Tournament of Jan 2007 (which was considered the strongest field of players assembled at that time.)
There were a 47 Champion players and 30 Intermediate players at the event = 77 players (an awkward number.) No Beginners (8) enter the Last Chance.
The Last 8s of the Main Champion flight and Intermediate flights were played on the Sunday morning. The Last Chance Draw took place at 10.45am on the Sunday. There were 18 re-buys. All seats were sold by approx. midday.
In the Last Chance only 3 of the last 32 were Intermediate flight players and all Intermediate players were very happy to have had matches with the Champion players.
There was a choice of 2 Optional Pools - £25 or £5. The £25 Pool raised £950, the £5 Pool raised £125. 100% return to highest placed player(s) though I know deals were done.
By comparison the Winner of the Champion Main took £2932, Main Finalist £1466, Main Semi-Finalists £367 each, Consolation Winner £1466, Consolation Finalist £733.
Carelessly I didn’t keep a record of the end time of the Last Chance but I think it was approx. 5.00pm.
All the players were very happy with the Last Chance format and no complaints were received about it.
But then again we like our traditional ways here in the Olde English countryside. Jolly hockey sticks, what! Cricket’s a spiffingly good game too olde boy – the rules are really very easy.
