There! Larry was given a handicap because of his age. Perhaps out of stubborness or unfamiliarity he still lost on time. Ironically the last time Larry and Lucky played it wsa the money round of some tournament, and Lucky LOST, even though Larry was very low on time at the end. Lucky and Larry started the match before the time clock was introduced so... Larry most certainly would have lost in the money round if it was used.

Having lost on time once, I am quite sure that Larry will take the necessary steps to ensure that it doesn't happen again. There is no excuse for losing on time in a bearoff position, and if he had all the time back it took him to remove and replace his damn hat, then he may have had time to finish. I hear he was mad, but what else could the directors have done?

Barring Larry is not the answer, he got extra time and flubbed his chance. He will be faster next time, trust me!

DAVID typed:Now I would like to summarize the collective wisdom of our group with respect to clocks. Clocks are to be mandated for all matches. We don’t care whether or not a player wants to use a clock, we want them to use a clock and that’s more important than their feelings or opinions. We don’t care whether or not the match is causing delays. They need to use a clock even if they are one or more rounds ahead of the field. We don’t care whether or not there are enough clocks for all. Players who don’t own clocks will have to buy them or the TD will have to supply them. If there is a cost, the tournament will make less money or lose more money as the case may be. We don’t care whether or not people know how to set or use the clocks. They must learn. We don’t care whether or not the TD feels that mandatory clock usage would require additional staff. They are wrong and don’t know their own business as well as we know their business. We don’t care if a TD has an idea which might eliminate the worst problems without a full clock mandate. Clocks – my way or the highway – that’s our position

Ray wonders: Is that your CURRENT stance? I was told, (maybe by UBK ?), that his request to play with a clock was DENIED. Rory asked for one in a consolation match w/ me after dinner and the request was granted without consultation of me. I had a bye in the first round, and led 8-3/11 in the second v Jolie Rubin, but she made a comeback and the match reached 10-10. So maybe we were behind. Her first match didn't go all that fast either. The dinner break interrupted my first consolation match with Taki. At the end of it, I was to play Rory, and he requested a clock. It then took a solid 15 minutes for him to return from the front desk with said clock, having had to have the instructions read to him. TDs need to know the clocks backwards and forwards, or at least be able to refer players to someone who does!
