you have a cube after an opening 66 plus one more improvement, if the opponent doesn't do anything.

I once mentioned at GammOnline that my checker play is determined by a set of simple backgammon rules. I am compiling that list. It is unfinished. Yet, I just added the above as rule # 18.

Rule # 18 has been my tactic for quite a while. Like most of my simple rules, I had not written it or found such an eloquent method of stating it. From what book or source, did you find this rule stated in this fashion? Thanks for the input.

Nevertheless, your adage could be used to justify a cube. Perhaps, White's threat to escape one back man is sufficient reason to hold off. Yet, there is enough volatility and advantage that cubing seems justified. Also, many would pass this.
