Agreed - except in certain problem positions where, for example, you need to be sure you don't miss with a roll like 5-5 or 4-4 the next turn.

I actually see this mistake made frequently. A checker can be moved to the six with one number and is played elsewhere instead. Other than the exceptions noted above (and when there's a need to avoid backgammons), it can never be wrong to move to the six with one number in a pure get off the gammon position.
