Sure, man, I believe in any kind of proof! The bot tells me I was WAY off with 20/18, and I believe that. I read Magriels thing where bearing off with an ace is NEVER wrong, and Trices assertion that it is also true with 5s. I dunno how you can prove any of this stuff with so many crossovers left though... So, I try to guide my thinking using common sense principles...
Like... if I am going to throw a bunch of aces then the most efficient thing to do is not waste any pips.
BUT... If I am going to throw a bunch of aces, I aint going to be saving this gammon, so maybe I'd better figure something else out, or not put too much emphasis on efficiency.
If you put that ace in, and a couple of other ones too when you have a choice, then you will get embarrassed when you throw a 6 and have to play it to the bar point... and THEN play the rest of the number from the outfield IN.
Everyone here knows the most efficient ace is 7/6 yet the right play is 7/5, and not 20/18,,, and furthermore that is an actual blunder over .100 according to a 3 ply rollout. I learned something there, and can learn from you too... just SHOW me the proof. :-).
