Hi Ray, it was a 9 pip lead while I had 63, not 69.
I use the formula from Walter's Backgammon Boot Camp.
You say, You guys that use that stuff totally intimidate me, I just guess OTB., I don't believe that for a second! The guess part I'll believe, but I doubt you're intimidated by anybody.
Depending on which MET we use, I think the 2-away/4-away doubling window is around 78-83%.
Unfortunately, I don't have the exact position, see my response to Matt where I approximated it. The exact position is surely closer to my response to Matt than his answer to my lame challenge!
If it is a Double/Take hey, maybe my opponent will pass and give me a free point. I spun the cube feeling that it was a correct double, but it was so close and my dice were so hot that maybe I would get a pass out of it.
Right now I'm convinced that it was closer to a Double/Pass then it was to a No Double/Take. More so than I was at the time I threw it.
I hope I get to play you some day on the tour! I don't expect to win five straight matches, three against current or former giants, for a combined score of 55-17 in five matches, every time I enter, but one thing for sure is my days in the Advanced bracket are over!!!
One thing is absolutely sure. I did make a horrible redouble in my quarters against Ed O' that I got away with. I hope Petko doesn't read this forum because he was watching it. I'm too embarrassed to go into details about it. I definitely gave away a ton of match equity that would be haunting me right now had it blown up on me.
Because, like you, I don't have the equity of every position memorized and so I still guess a lot. I seriously underestimated the equity of a deuce point holding game.
So on my way to the crown, I think I played pretty solid in three matches- against Goulding, Hemingway and Versaw. Against Ed O' I thought I played okay, there are some mid-match cube decisions I may have erred on the side of caution, and then I made a hideous recube at match score against a 2-pt holding game. It's that type of stupidity I have to minimize if I ever want to win again.
Against Petko I made some takes that may have been drops, but I can justify that by saying he was the much stronger player so I wanted to shorten the match.
