My congratulations to Barry also, even though due to a sub-clause in the notarized, legal-reviewed, and possibly internationally copyrighted hedge contract he mentions in a later post, I would have got more quatloos if it had gone the other way.
Here are some thoughts about other stuff that came up in this thread, but I forget exactly where:
A. Regarding the position shown later in this thread, I could have sworn that Barry had three crossovers to make also, all from the 8 point. But then, I remember Bill's crossovers being longer than the ones shown also. Afterward, Bill asked if I thought it was a take, and I said I thought he did the right thing. Even if it was a borderline pass, since Barry is the stronger player IMO it would still have been correct for Bill to take and put the match on the line in a simple position.
B. Gamesgrid ratings, Ray's in particular, come up later in this thread. If I'd known anyone was going to indiscriminately save my matches not to study, but just to grind through Snowie and spit out numbers, I'd have at least considered barring them from watching! Garbage in, garbage out... 1. If you are playing weak opponents and consistently getting an error rate of 2 or 3, I doubt very much you are squeezing out all the juice available. In that situation, forget the bot and look for the opportunities you don't normally see. 2. Gamesgrid was a social as well as BG playing site, and many players, myself and Ray included, have been guilty of yakking in multiple chat windows, watching the Buckeyes, and listening to P!nk's latest on Youtube while playing. The only Gamesgrid matches that should "count" IMO are money (or ego?) matches against strong opponents. For example, I recorded a long series of short matches played by Falafel and Senk, and can tell you that both played low error because they were in for both money and ego. Perhaps Ray also plays better against strong opponents for money...or even more especially, ego? >>
