A No-Win Situation (no pun intended)

In backgammon, as in other things in life, we can become so competitive and so confident that in many situations it becomes impossible to 'win'.

In Stick's case I can imagine that, rightfully or wrongfully, he may feel he should win every match against almost any opponent. Thus, if he wins, it's no big deal because he was supposed to win. And, if he loses, it's a big deal to him, his opponent, and any interested spectators.

It's really a bit of a death spiral mindset to get into.
