The problem with ER is that it tends to be treated as gospel, if one person played a 4 and the other played a 5, obviously the person who played a 4 played better. That isn't necessarily true--each position needs to be weighed on its own merits.

ER tends to fluctuate almost as much as results do. I will play at a 2.x-3.x in several matches in a row in online play and then have one match where I play at an 8 and blow my ER for the entire day. I'd like to think that that doesn't happen OTB, but I'm sure it probably does. ER in a match isn't the same as ER in the long run.

I do think making the right decisions is absolutely critical, so I try to remember as many positions as I can where I think it's close or I'm not 100% sure of the right answer and run them through GNU later. I probably have a better memory than most, but cameras and the like are fine.

don't sell yourself short and ignore those who tell you playing consistently at a 2 ER is impossible, another theory I plan on debunking eventually. (though with slight modifications that I won't go into here lol)

I believe that it is possible to play consistently and significantly below a 2.0, although I'm not sure if anyone is currently at that level.
