I played this position quite a few times as a PFH (play from here) after two move choices; 24-23, 3-1* and 3-1*, 3-2.
24-23, 3-1* is strong when white fans. However, there's still the five prime to jump before a win can be claimed. The game has a long way to go. 3-1*, 3-2 isn't lost yet after a dance. In all, 16 dancing rolls favor moving to the edge by a large amount.
24-23, 3-1* is almost lost when white enters. White will have an immediate double out most of the time. He will be too good after 2-6 from the bar. 3-1*, 3-2 leaves a lot of work to be done after either a dancing deuce or an entering one. But, there's a prime in place which will keep the game competitive for a while at least. In all 20 entering rolls (after play 1) give an absolutely huge advantage to the priming play.
The priming play 3-1*, 3-2 appears to be correct by a lot. My play was 24-23, 3-1* & wrong. Stick keeps telling me how strong five primes (and by extension, six primes) are. Perhaps I will eventually learn he is right. The strength of the five prime affects both sides of the board here. The theme appears to be, create your own strength (a six prime) rather than directly challenging the opponent's strength (his five prime).
