Stick asks: I'm not sure how a coin qualifies under the term 'mechanical'?

Two answers:

1. We could point to a broader definition of "mechanical" that is not not limited to machinery, such as

"mechanical: using (or as if using) mechanisms or tools or devices"

2. A better answer, in my view, is that the essence of ABT Rule 1.5 is that a player shall use no aids except what's necessary to keep score, not that a player is allowed to use some aid that's not specifically "written, mechanical or electronic."

The relevant and clearly written DBgF rule is:

"Once a match is in progress, neither player may use electronical, mechanical, written nor any other aids, except those necessary to keep score."

I interpret the ABT rule as if it included the phrase "nor any other aids," even though it doesn't say so.
