From the numbers you've given I wouldn't have cubed before this great sequence either.

Here, on roll, I double though, I don't care who I'm playing really. I don't need to figure out if it's a take and I don't believe it's TG, so my decision is easy, double and let him figure it out.

It's hard to answer the question "if I'm White and I also suck by 'this much' compared to my opponent is it a take? There's certainly a lot of play left in this game and I'd hazard a guess that White's play in this game would be a shade easier than in starting a new game (and then another after that if he won a single!) so if I'm significantly weaker, I'd probably take.

If I was playing you and you'd somehow forgot to double before the sequence I'd drop and move on to -1a -2a C.
