Mary: I like it against this opponent and with you behind on the score. Good things can happen, and a lot of them start right now.

Ray: I think this statement accounts for fully 10% of the matches that the acknowleged experts win. However, not in this case because Stick is a reputable player also, and the double is justified by the position..

But sooooooooo many players over emphasize the strength of their opponents and double EARLY, because they need to get lucky to beat an "expert". Like so much other "conventional wisdom", this idea is flawed.

If this guy plays so good that you need to get lucky against him, why send over an early cube and afford him more opportunities to get lucky himself? The earlier you double, the longer time your opponent has to turn the game around...

So many sad stories originate from early doubles. I doubled him and rolled my best, but he anchored on the ace point... and when he had 10 men stuck on my ace, of course I rolled 65, (the only number that left a shot), {only I can do that}, and....

Play your own game against the best players. Giving them early cubes makes their decisions easier.

Early doubling of experts adds more arrows to the EXPERT's quiver.
