Witte initiated nothing. The reported, though undocumented, minor incidental pushing of someone's fist out of someone's else face -- any of us would do the same thing -- occurred, if it occurred, at the end of the first half. It was reported after the game as an excuse and rationalization for the later behavior -- I find it highly suspect. The major incident occurred with seconds to go in the game when Minnesota was losing a game they were supposed to win. The Nix guy who was involved in the first 'incident' was not involved -- or at least was not reported to be involved -- in the second, major savage attack. Behagen, Taylor, Winfield, and others just went on a brutal rampage. I remember the entire video being shown at the time -- the snippet available on YouTube, at least the only one I've seen recently on YouTube, does not do it justice -- and the many photos and articles consequent to the event. In my opinion the guys were thugs who should have been suspended for the season, and are thugs who will never have my respect. Unfortunately, and doubtlessly contributing to the event, they were 'coached' by a guy who was always regarded, wherever he went, pros and college, as a renegade rogue wildman. He is 'held' in the same, or even lower, poor regard.
