In Response To: LV Round #3 Play #1 (Matt Cohn-Geier)

My position is ugh here. If I hit two and get missed, it's still rough, if I hit two and get hit, I'm in really terrible shape. I played 6/5 6/4 which gives John a free hand to do anything he wants but at least gets the 4 point for the blot hitting contest which may follow. I momentarily saw Stick's play of 8/7 6/4 but it didn't make it past my 0-ply filter. This has the merit of getting the 4 point as in my play and at least duplicates his 6s, so if he doesn't roll a 6, 5, or ace I am OK.

I kind of felt that GNU would put two up and lo, GNU prefers 4/2*/1* by a wide margin on analysis, but it shrinks on rollout. Still TCTC but I think 4/2*/1* is likely best. I just have to hope that John doesn't hit me and maybe even rolls a 6. Plus his boxes is a huge swing.

Ray:6/4 6/5. If hit it may help you establish an anchor... Hitting two and killing a checker leaves a mess. Put your checkers where they belong. If you get hit and fan, then you may just have to give up this game if you get doubled. Too bad, so sad.

This is what happened in the game, John rolled a 62 and played 24/22 13/7*, and I fanned. But I took the incoming cube. GNU evals it as ND/T after this, and passing is a .421 blunder at the score. If he hits two and I fan with both then I have a close decision.

The score (after 6 games) is: John O'Hagan 7, Matt Cohn-Geier 4 (match to 15 points)

Move number 6: Matt Cohn-Geier to play 21
