Opening roll - post Crawford

Agreed about statistical accuracy, but there is some merit in Bart's rollouts. He didn't enlist the help of other players CPU time ala Weaver. Bart did them himself because he was curious about the best plays to make in such a common situation faced over the board... Our book is not necessarily 1@ 2@ post Crawford though, it is just Post Crawford period. It is entitled backgammon dillemmas: The Free Drop.
All positions were rolled out by Bart on his own computer and sometimes two or three trials for the close ones. As in most of backgammon a little common sense goes a long way... ie: we spend the most time on the close decisions, and they make the LEAST difference!
However, it is nice to KNOW that if your opponent rolls 31 making his five point and you respond with 44, doing the same... You are supposed to PASS his double, when you have a free drop!
Another surprise is how bad a roll of 55 is, and its cousin 53. Quite informative actually, and on a subject with much wider application than how to play an opening 31, for instance! It is also an easy read, because we deleted superfuous statistics, and posted the results in a simpler form. Then too, one can stop at any juncture if he gets tired, and pick up where he left off later. Definitely worth $30, and I will only get $5 of it. I am hoping someday to become a hundred-aire based on the sales of this masterpiece!
Don't underestimate Bart Brooks either, my friends. He is a tireless worker, and he can apply what he has learned... He won the ABT event in Los Angeles by knocking off Art Benjamin, (all time # 4 in ABT points). Art remains in the top 5 despite playing only rarely over the last 10 years. Of all backgammon players I have ever met, Art is singularly the sharpest and most accomplished mathematician. He was Math Professor of the year in the UNITED STATES once and does a magic act where he squares 3,4, and 5 digit numbers in his HEAD. Amazing guy, and only one of the TWO main people who stood atop the ABT list for years at a time... Some of you may be aware whom the other one is? Hi Neil!
