I think you are misinterpreting what I'm saying.
Doubling early advantages against expert opponents puts more arrows in the EXPERT's quiver.
I very rarely alter my cube strategy at all on initial cubes. However when I am playing Neil or John and considering redoubling what would be a borderline/clear ND with gammon chances, I think it is generally right to do so. And who knows, maybe they will pass. Maybe it's even right to pass?
And, against the vast majority of players, I do not try to jack up the cube, I just try to keep it down. That doesn't mean that I try to limit the 1- or 2-point losses by any means--if someone ships me a weak early cube I am taking it in a heartbeat, I don't care how awful he plays the checkers. If I start passing initial cubes then I am giving up my entire advantage. But I do try to limit the 4- or 8- or 16-point losses against many players, even if passing may be a sizable blunder.
Once a match gets down to the wire at 2-away or 3-away or some such where initial cube strategy may be altered, I still don't generally alter my initial cube play, although it might be right to do so. I would need to be convinced by rollouts here.
