In actuality this is no redouble, take. Psychologically with $2K riding on your decision it's a little tougher on White. Arkady thought for 5 minutes and then he took it. I rolled 66, which shortened my timing and then I got the first 5 just as I was ready to crack. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the other one and I also rolled 44 and 33 wherupon he redoubled me out.

I sort of knew in a prime v prime game where you have to get 2 5s it might not be a redouble, but it is generally a good thing to allow your opponents imagination defeat him. Several BGOers and most open players would pass this. It is to Arkady's credit that he overcame the fear.

The real inner beauty of this kind of redouble is that you can pick your pigeon. I would NOT double Malcolm Davis, Ed O'Laughlin, and probably not Neil Kazaross, or John O'Hagan all of whom have proven to me that they can handle the pressure of high stakes matches. I know some other pros who would never take this OTB. I doubled Arkady because I had never played with him and I had to put him to the test. He passed the test, but after this game I got all the dice and won the match anyway. I survived some adversity there.

If you redouble this one and someone takes, worse things can happen to you. If I had gotten that other 5, I may well have gone up 10-1 and taken charge of the match. When I lost, 2-5/13 was not so bad. Arkady was shaking his head at his good fortune that I never got the last 5, and maybe he was distracted for a couple of games, I don't know. It's not always who takes all his checkers off first who wins, there is often a battle of wills going on at the same time. Make sure to test your opponents resolve once in a while.
