I admit that I, too, would have slotted in this position over the board, and I would have done it quickly and confidently. It took me a while to figure out the reasons that slotting here is wrong.

One reason is that there is less duplication of 4s here than in the opening position. White’s 42 31 are no longer great point-making rolls.

Another reason is that when you are a big favorite in a position without slotting, there is no need to take the risk. In the position presented by Kaz, White is a huge favorite. By slotting, Blue gives White a chance to get back in the game when she hits.
