Assuming you don't get hit ripping two off will win a LOT more gammons. I think the main thing to realize is that getting hit doesn't lead to that many more losses anyway, as you'll generally only have 4 checkers left when you do get hit (with the agressive play).

You get hit more often by ripping two, but getting hit doesn't lead to many more losses. Getting down to 6 (instead of 7) checkers garners many more gammons.
