LV Semifinals Cube #1 further action
Posted By: Matt Cohn-Geier In Response To: LV Semifinals Cube #1 (Matt Cohn-Geier)

I rolled a 52 next roll and again had a choice of paying off. This time I would prefer to pay off because I have to break my 6 point which reduces my clearing rolls, weakens my board, and leaves me one roll shorter on time. However Perry has now made his 8 point which is big and getting hit is pretty costly for me. I chose to pay later again, slightly more significant error but still quite close, .006 back.
The score (after 16 games) is: Perry Gartner 10, Matt Cohn-Geier 14 (match to 15 points, Crawford game)

Cube: 2-ply cubeful prune [world class] Two rolls later I roll a cleanly standing 4 but a 3 that is slightly leaning against the bar. People are touching the table, people look like they might touch the dice, Perry thinks it's clean, it looks cocked from my POV but I just want a director to make a ruling on whether it's cocked or not. It takes a few minutes, eventually Pat Gibson is summoned, and rules that the die is legal. I still don't quite understand the procedure of pushing down on the die, but OK, I said I'd accept his ruling. There was a piece of lint under the die, so it would seem.
Ed O'Laughlin says that it was probably an above average roll for me. Maybe it was, but it wasn't a double or 54. I have enough trouble trying to figure out the best play without trying to figure out whether the roll is good for me or not. For the record, the 43 is slightly better than average.
This time I pay now, Perry hits me, completes the prime, eventually hits a second checker, wins a (noncounting) gammon, match resumes after the dinner break. I would win the post-Crawford GS game.
