As I am not a maths nut, I will approach this question philosophically. (I got better marks in it than in maths lol).

I hypothesize that if we make it harder to win, we will have fewer newbies sticking around for the long haul. If one has no hope in hell of winning ever, it takes the wish to play away...

Besides, if you took the luck factor out, I wouldn't win ANY matches!
