The only rule change I'd consider for regular BG

Making doubles play only as two numbers instead of four would ruin the game as we know it, since getting a lead in a roll based race would mean that the game is over.

However, there is one rule I'd consider changing and that is that if a player rolls doubles when he's on the bar, he only plays two of the number thrown. This will make it more important to hit the opp and also minimize those sicking turn arounds when someone throws a super perfecta 35-1 shot from the roof to enter, and the point inside their board etc etc.

Of course my suggestion is just an idea and may result in hitting being a bit too important (I doubt it) and there's certainly no reason to change a great game that's been around for 5000 years or so.
