In Response To: An Interesting Little Play from LA (Jason Lee)

I played 4/o, 2/1. My thinking was that once I'd gotten the first checker off I had an even number of checkers left so it was not critical to lift another to save a roll. The opponent has the same chance of hitting me on the next roll whether I hit him or not. Playing 2-1 maximizes the chances that I don't leave another shot on a subsequent roll.

My play wins more games and, consequently, more gammons; but it sacrifices some backgammons.
