I would've played 6/2 in a heartbeat OTB. And that was how I was going to vote here until I saw some of the other replies, so I looked at it again.

Upon further reflection I decided that playing 6/2 gives white "free 3's", cause is blue really going to hit white anywhere unless he can cover the 2pt blot? Soooooooo, I think that contesting the outfield with 20/16 is ok here since blue has the golden anchor locked up.

Aside from 6/2 sucking, there is another virtue to 20/16 that I alluded to. It contests the outfield, making white's next rolls more awkward whenever he doesn't hit. For example 52, or any roll for that matter which doesn't hit means that white will want to clean up the blot, whereas that wouldn't be a priority at all after 6/2.

There is also the matter of duplication. 3's and 1's are rolls white wants to use to move up to the edge of the prime (or semi-jump it, or completely jump it). But white can't hit with a 3 (or 21) and also clear from the rear.

So anyway, I've talked myself into making the scary looking play of 20/16. The real question in my mind is how strong were Neil's kibbers? If they were strong, then I'd guess he may (or may not) have played 6/2, but if they were weaker I doubt they'd spot 20/16, let alone tell Neil afterwards they thought he was wrong for not facing a double shot at a GS-like score.
