18 is the more valuable point, but 2 numbers hit back. On the 17 point, only one number hits back. OTOH, blue has 2 numbers to hit the remaining white blot, after hitting on the 18 it is only one number. White has the better board and the golden anchor, so Blue should tend to play safe.
