Indeed correct to stay back. Coming up, while breaking the board, gives too many attacking numbers. Wait and hope to hop. Clearing the six isn't all that bad as Chuck said. It's ok for the race and if White does hit loose any hitback by you from the bar is likely to pick up the other blot (if you don't simply pick it up next turn)
