Neil still agrees and this would have been exactly what I'd have done if directing. I suspect that Pat might have done the same thing had he been notified at that time. However, once match continues with Joe pausing Norm's clock for a while during Norm's moves so Norm can gain some time back, it is hard to rule otherwise as it seems that Norm must've agreed that this was accerptable and we don't really know whether this may have saved Norm the couple minutes that were lost from his clock anyhow.

Neil wrote "As far as not shaking the dice in time trouble. This sb unacceptable and a quick fast and hard up/down once shake and roll vigorously as I sometimes do is OK, IMHO, as the dice are certainly random when they come to rest."
Neil queries, where was Pat when this was going on? Why didn't Norm do the same thing as Joe with the lack of shaking? Once again, had I been directing I'd have forced both players to shake at least once and not to fast grab the dice 'til the clock was hit. We have rules, you know !
Neil cautions all... When an incident occurs that might require the director, or a staff member, call him over, and immediately. In this case, Norm's opp spilled a drink in a what was likely a diner booth. In the commotion Norm neglected to hit his clock. Norm should have hit his clock anyhow, but anyone could forget when there's liquid all over the place and likely coming at you.
Anyhow it was up to Norm to call the director (Patrick) over before continuing on with the match. The meek don't always inherit the earth...ie we sometimes have to look after our best interests since sometimes no one else will. However, had I been Joe and this had happened, I'd have called Pat over and suggested that the time wasted be added to Norm's clock, noting that it was me who spilled the drink all over. But once the opps continue playing, the director has fewer options after the fact.
