Agree on all counts.

Unfortunately the "rules" we have to play by are clear on the penalty for premature lifting of dice.

"A player who prematurely picks up the dice forfeits his per move deductible for his next checker play."

Which in this case is exactly zippo.

Perhaps the penalty should follow premature action rules? You pick up the dice while my clock is still running, I get to make an illegal play knowing that you've condoned it by lifting the dice? Let's hear Pat's ruling on that one? lol
