Then I am encouraged too to give a non-elitist opinion !

Against hitting (besides losing more gammons of course) is that closing the 5-point is still a long way from winning the game, and that escaping isn't a complete lock for White.

In favour of hitting is that we are unlikely to make the 5-point without slotting it, so if we want any forward winning chances we will have to take a similar risk sooner or later. I like taking that risk while the opponent's board is cheesy and blotty, so I would hit. I could be hugely wrong though.
