However, reducing the TC to 8 seconds and perhaps 1.5 minutes per point (e.g. 8 minutes rounded for a 5 point match) may be a workable solution. I will experiment starting with 10 seconds TC, this week (tonight).
Neil replies: Wonderful !! Yes, I like it, the 10sec+8min for a 5 pt match. After a couple rounds tonite you'll know how that is going. However, 8sec delay time really will be very fast and result in poor or non shaking. I urge you to stay away from 8sec delay time if you can (unless you modify the cocked dice rule, but that opens up another can of worms since players will not be used to it)
Patrick "My re-entry (buybacks) weekly format (developed by me over 28 years ago) is a major contributor to the time-schedule problem. We allow rnd-1 buybacks and rnd-2 buybacks and only give byes when necessary in round-3. This consistently generates a SIX-round tournament on Tuesdays. Ergo, we must move along smartly in order to make it happen; so we play 5-pts for the first four rounds and then 7-pts for the last two, assuming that the charted time schedule is managed tightly."
Neil repsonds, I look forward to hearing how it goes tonite with 10 seconds delay time and 8 minutes for a 5 pt match. I don't expect you to have too many issues, and I think this may result in fewer clock issues than an analog TC. Of course, if it seems the matches are running a bit too long, you can always shorten the semis and finals to 5 or even split the finals.
I really hope to hear how this goes .. neilkaz ..
