Semifactual Ray

STEVE On the other hand, if Joe announced the score and Ray intentionally failed to correct him, I think it would be entirely fair to let Joe retract his pass. But what really happened? None of us were there and I certainly would not presume to question the integrity of either of these veteran players.
RAY... I have gone over this many times in my mind, and I would not have posted either CLOCKtroversy unless I thought they were blatant infractions.
Joe's response contains a few altered facts to make his story sound better. I verified this with both Norm and Patrick G.
As for Steve's view here, one of the facts altered by Joe was to say that he announced the score. He did NOT. Neither did we verify the score at 1-0 or 1-8... Just paused the clock, tossed the cube in the middle or wrote the score.
Afterwards I verified scores.
I think it is normal to misstate the facts to avoid blame, but it doesn't make it right. I am sure Joe didn't announce the score because while pleading his case he stated: "We didn't verify the score after the game" apparently to suggest that since we hadn't adhered to the accepted convention then he deserved a break on the ruling.
The number of excuses he came up with was amazing, actually. He would not give up!
In the end, the only one who got an unfair ruling was me. Joe complained so loud and so long that when I claimed to have rolled a 6 legally before using the bathroom... I was ruled against almost immediately by Pat, and told to roll again...
In verifying the individual stories since, Norm told me he saw me roll the 6, but not what happened after that. Joe wrote he didn't see it...{{{SURPRISE}}} Joe will probably call Norm a liar now and claim that he is my buddy and we are ganging up on him, as he did with Patrick that night.
On my return from the bathroom my die had magically transported itself to the left side of the board, (from my perspective), and sat next to Joe's cup and die which were now on the board. Remember that only two dice are in play when using a clock.
epilogue: If you want to shoot an angle, try whining about a fair ruling for a long time, then maybe you can get away with a subsequent angle shot when the director is trying to even the score so he won't appear to be biased towards one player.
